Today, I am going to give you tips on how to crack CAT 2019 and after that based upon your comments, I will give you tips on other examinations which you will be wanting.
At first I want to give you a brief knowledge about the percentile concept in CAT.
A percentile is calculated as the Percentage of people below your marks in a particular exam.
For example, if in an exam, there are 1000 students writing the same, and one gets a FIRST Rank , then there would be 999 students below this student. 999 students out of 1000 (meaning 99% of students) are below the student and hence the student will get 99%ile in that exam.
In the same exam, if someone gets a 10th Rank, then the percentile would be 90%ile (as 90% of the students would have a got a mark lower than this student).
TIPS TO CRACK CAT 2019
REGULAR PRACTICE AND PLANNING:By regular practice , I don't mean that you have to study for 16-18 hrs daily. From this I want to convey you that whether you study for 8-10 hrs daily or you study for 16-18 hrs daily, you have to plan your schedule well. You have to do your monthly as well as weekly and daily planning too.
DO SMART WORK INSTEAD OF HARD WORK.
You have to focus on your fundamentals ,sharpen test-taking skills, and improve with the practice of the mock tests.
In your weekly plan include the area which you want to improve. The weekly task should also include revision of the covered concepts (minimum one topic per day). Once, four to six concepts are completed, you should try taking as many mock test questions related to those covered topics. Try to take as many mock tests you can give because it will remove your fear and it will help you improving yourself.
A planned approach towards CAT preparation will not only help you to score well but will also save a lot of time and energy to pursue your hobbies or your passion. Scoring well in CAT is not a difficult task if one ensures a perfect planning and execution.
TIME MANAGEMENT:
Time is the most valuable aspect in a online exam whether it is CAT or some other competitive exams. In CAT , every section is time bound so you have to plan well accordingly and for this as I have said earlier you have to take as many mock test which you want to take. The time management strategy is usually separate for each sub-section and for every individuals. For example, a candidate may choose to spend more time in English Usage area than the RC questions in the VARC section or spend more time analyzing and solving the DI questions if he/she is not competent enough for the LR section or in QA section in their strong areas.
Basically the time management differs from individual to individual. Ideally, not more than two minutes should be spent per question as candidates should keep some spare time for question selection and revision.
SPEED AND ACCURACY.
Focus of a exam taker should be mainly on maintaining the level of accuracy.
So one is expected to prioritize their questions based on their strengths and weaknesses. Test takers should first focus on completing questions from their strong areas, followed by the weak areas.
As the negative marking pattern is there you should be much more cautious about your accuracy.
if the questions are numerical based , just re-check the value one more time and then enter it.
The supplementary aspect which tags along with accuracy is speed! CAT aspirants not only need to solve the questions accurately but have to solve them in minutes. Speed immensely matters to attain grip on CAT exam.
STAY CALM AND BEGIN WITH YOUR COMFORTABLE AREAS.
It will be better for you to select and start attempting questions from the area of strength to boost your confidence. Comfortable questions prepare you for the entire tenure of the test and eventually help candidates to tackle the tricky, difficult questions as well. Moreover, comfortable questions let one save time as can be solved easily within a short span of time. Post completing the comfortable questions, test takers can delve into the tough questions, spend some extra time and try solving them accurately so that they do not lose out on any of the known questions.
